The Importance of Consent

Incluso Services, an NDIS provider, collects information to assist with seamless onboarding, while always prioritising your privacy. We keep all your personal information safe, and only collect what we need. We follow Australian laws about how we look at your personal information, how we use it and give it to other people.

What is Consent?

Consent is when someone gives permission for something to happen or agreement to do something. You need to agree to something willingly, without any pressure. You also need to fully understand the information and consequences of your decision.

Elements of consent include:

Inform: The individual, that we provide all necessary information for them to make an educated decision.
Voluntary: Individuals must give consent freely, without pressure, coercion, or manipulation. The individual should feel comfortable in making their decision.
Capacity: The person must understand the information and its implications for their decision.
Revocable: Everyone has the right to withdraw or adjust consent at any time. Consent is an ongoing process, and individuals should be able to change their mind without any negative repercussions.
People should clearly communicate consent. You can accomplish this by discussing the issue, filling out a form, or finding other effective ways to communicate. Each person may have different preferences for how they communicate. Finding the method that works best for the individual is important.

Why is respecting consent important?

In support work, consent is crucial. It means respecting an individual's right to make their own decisions about the help they receive.
At Incluso Services, we understand the importance of participants making their own choices, in line with the NDIS guidelines on consent. You can talk to someone like an Incluso contact, disability advocate, family member, friend, or professional for more information.
The NDIS have great resources to help you understand consent and also to provide consent.
